Dear: Parents and Athletes,
During my 25 year involvement in basketball, I have been exposed to some of the brightest minds in sports training and development. The coaches that helped develop me as an NBA player for 15 years are the same ones that I still see coaching today, such as, George Karl, Tim Gugurich, and Jim Lynam, Gene Shue, and K.C. Jones, just to name a few. My willingness to commit to the game at an early age and seek individuals who not only taught the game of basketball, but also played it at a high level, was instrumental to my forward progress as a player. After experiencing a perfect season during my senior year in high school, there were certain skills that I possessed as a result of learning the fundamentals at an early age and had nothing to do with my height, size, and speed. My four year college experience taught me all I needed to know about playing college basketball, and the Olympic experience helped prepare me for what turned out to be a 15 year NBA career.
These experiences have given me a wealth of knowledge about the game of basketball at all levels and this is what I will share with you. Passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding and developing a high IQ for basketball is what my training sessions are all about. I will evaluate you as an individual or team and put together a custom plan that addresses your specific needs. The drills that I teach will benefit the bigs and smalls on your team. In order for you to play the game you must understand both perspectives. I had to learn what guards do; whether I'm playing with them or defending them, you will be in both situations.
Many of my ex-teammates and friends have gone on to coach or hold front office positions in the NBA and College ranks. I have played along side such talented guards as Gary Payton, Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury, and Mark Price, to name a few and in doing so you learn to understand and teach the game from their perspective too. I have also learned many techniques in my battles against such talented big men as Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O'neal and I will teach you how to guard, defend and score against these types of players whether you are undersized or not. I will incorporate some of the moves and skills that I have learned in playing with and against these great NBA and college talents to help you improve your game or raise your teams level of play.
My program also involves and recommends agility training to any developing young athlete, hey the pros still do it too! These training sessions are usually one hour and can be conducted at your facilities or ours. I also keep in close contact with High School, college and NBA coaches to find out the latest on skill and IQ development.
Please fill out the form below to arrange your next skill development session or check availability with Michael Cage and his team. Program requirements are a minimum of two required sessions each for one hour, also individual or team must be evaluated before starting program. Most training sessions are video taped to show progressive learning curve along with the individual or team being given homework.
Michael Cage also is having an up and coming big man camp in which he will focus on low and mid post moves, defending the post, free throw shooting, and passing out of the post, it will be a one day four hour camp for big men only and you may also inquire about the guards camp that will follow as well.
